What God says about the Orphan and Vulnerable Child:

Proverbs 31:8-9

“Open your mouth for those who can not speak, for the rights of all the unfortunate.  Open your mouth, judge righteously, and defend the rights of the afflicted and needy.”

Jeremiah 22:16

“He pled the cause of the afflicted and needy; then it was well.  Is not that what it means to know me?”

Psalm 22:24

“For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither has He hidden His face from Him; But when he cried to Him for help, He heard.”

James 1:27

“This is pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father, to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.”

Job 29:12-13; 15-16

“Because I delivered the poor who cried for help, and the orphan who had no helper. v. 13 The blessing  of the one ready to perish came upon me, and I made the widow’s heart to sing for joy.  v. 15 I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame. v. 16 I was a father to the needy, and I investigated the case of those who were strangers.”

Proverbs 14:31

“He who oppresses the poor reproaches his maker, but he who is gracious to the needy honors Him.”

Isaiah 1:16-17

“Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Remove the evil of your deeds from my sight.  Cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, reprove the ruthless; defend the orphan, plead for the widow.”

Isaiah 10:1-2

“Woe to those who enact evil statutes, and to those who constantly record unjust decisions, so as to deprive the needy of justice, and rob the poor of my people of their rights, in order that widows may be their spoil, and that they may plunder the orphans.”

Jeremiah 5:28

“They are fat, they are sleek, they also excel in deeds of wickedness; they do not plead the cause, the cause of the orphan, that they may prosper; and they do not defend the rights of the poor.”

Hosea 14:3c

“… for in Thee the orphan finds mercy.”

“The Lord protects the strangers; He supports the fatherless and the widow; but He thwarts the way of the wicked.”

“A father of the fatherless and judge for the widows, is God in His holy habitation.”

Deuteronomy 24:19

“When you reap your harvest in your field and have forgotten a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it; it shall be for the alien, for the orphan, and for the widow, in order that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.”

Deuteronomy 24:21-22

“When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you shall not go over it again; it shall be for the alien, for the orphan, and for the widow.  And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt; therefore I am commanding you to do this thing.”
